Take a tour of the skies and discover the constellations, planets, nebulae, and other stunning night sky objects that can be seen in the night sky. Spectacular video imagery will bring viewers up close to black holes, star-forming nebulae, and more, showing the newest discoveries in astrophysics while instilling a sense of wonder about our universe. (General Audience) Planetarium Shows are Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00pm. Show lasts approximately 35 minutes. Early arrival is suggested as tickets are sold first come, first served. People are not permitted to enter the Planetarium once the show has begun. Price is $3.00 per person, includes admission to the Museum. Children under age 4 are not permitted in the Planetarium. Mushrooms for Beginners (Ages: 13 & Up) Date:  August 27, 2014 (Wednesday) Time:  9:45 am - 4:30 pm Place:  Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Prudence Island, RI Program Fee: $15/member, $20/non-member Mushrooms for Beginners Learn all about wild mushrooms and how to identify local species that grow on Prudence Island. This is a great beginner program for those who have not had experience in identifying mushrooms.  Joe Metzen of Audubon, our mushroom guide for the day, will provide presentation on mushrooms, background history and tips on working with field guides. After lunch, we will take a hike in the woods to see what we can find. If time allows, we’ll also tour Prudence Island to learn about some of the island's unique historical and cultural sights.   Prudence Island Trips: Participants will depart on the 10:00 am ferry from Bristol, RI.Arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of ferry departure and purchase your round-trip ferry ticket (approximately $10 per person, cash or check only.) Parking options: There is a free municipal parking lot across from the ferry landing, or you can choose to park in the Bristol ferry parking lot ($10/day charge).  Free and non-permit parking is also available along High Street in Bristol. Participants depart Prudence Island on the 4:00 pm ferry, returning to Bristol at 4:30 pm.  Participants will be greeted at the ferry landing on Prudence Island by educators from the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve (www.nbnerr.org).  Please note that there are limited opportunities to use restroom facilities during these programs. Bring: binoculars*, camera, a packed lunch, water bottle, insect and tick repellent, comfortable footwear and warm, waterproof clothes in case of inclement weather. Registration is required due to limited space. Please Note:  Ticks are common on Prudence Island so we recommend wearing long-sleeved shirt, light-colored pants, and shoes with tall socks so you can tuck pants into socks as needed.  *Extra binoculars are available to borrow for the day.
